After School Clubs

At Meadowbank Primary School we offer a wide variety of after school clubs for all of our children.

Here are just some examples of the exciting clubs we offer, after school clubs can change throughout the year:

Lego/ICT Club

In this club, Miss.Southworth teaches the children how to use very special Lego® WeDo kits.

LEGO® Education WeDo is a fantastic, simple-to-use cross-curricular tool that enables our children to learn, construct and then bring their models to life using intuitive drag-and-drop software. The children have the opportunity to develop and improve their communication, collaboration and team-building skills.

Gardening/ECO Club

Gardening/ECO club is held weekly throughout the year. The club is planned for all children and is planned to support the National Curriculum programmes of study in Science. The children learn about plant structure, seed dispersal and growth. Each half term the children have an opportunity to join the club. At the moment the gardening club are using the school grounds outside the Key Stage 1 classrooms but try to look after all planted areas around the school and children's centre.

Throughout the year the children have the opportunity to plant, grow and harvest fruits and vegetables. This helps to develop their understanding of where food comes from and hopefully will encourage them to include more healthy foods in their own diet.

Wigan Athletic Clubs

Wigan Athletic come into school twice a week to deliver clubs, we train to get ready for all of the footballing events that the school takes part in. Over the year, we have 2 different tournaments and a league to try and win, so we have to practise very hard! We concentrate on attacking and defending, as well as passing and moving. We always like to finish with a match to show off our skills!

Choir rehearse every Wednesday after school until 4.15pm. We sing a variety of different songs including pop, rock and Disney. Choir have also written and performed their own song.

Every year the children take part in Young Voices. A concert at the MEN Arena involving 8000 other children. At Christmas, choir go carol singing and we have also taken part in festivals. Last year we took part in a project called  ‘Voices around the world’. We visited a recording studio to record a song called ‘Unshakeable’. This was then put together with other choirs around the world singing the same song. The video can be watched on
