Year 3

Hello and a very warm welcome to Year Three. My name is Miss Latham and I am the class teacher. Mrs Bond and Miss Kidd also support the children in our class. We are really looking forward to helping your child make their first steps into becoming a 'junior'.

What we are learning in Year 3 this term?

Summer Term 1 - Year 3

How can parents help at home?

Reading every day at home is essential in Year 3 to practise and maintain phonics skills learnt in Key Stage 1.  Remember to focus on developing your child's understanding of what they are reading by asking lots of quesions both as they are reading the text and after.

Please remember to keep practising your letters and sounds/spelling skills using the following websites:

www.phonicsplay.co.uk

www.spelliingplay.co.uk

Reading Books

Reading books will be changed once a week, usually every Wednesday afternoon.  Please try and read with your child every night and sign their planner regularly to show that reading is taking place at home.  In Year 3 we reward children for regular reading by giving extra smilies, certificates amd prizes.

Planners

Your child's planner will be checked every morning by a member of staff.  Please remember to record in your child's planner if they have read or if you have any messages to give to the class teacher.

P.E.

P.E. is on Monday. Please ensure your child has a full school PE kit with pumps on this day.

Playtime/Dinnertime Information

At morning break the children are given free milk and toast.  Children are also provided with a water bottle in Key Stage 2 to ensure that they have access to drinking water at all times.  There is also a water fountain for the children to access throughout the school day.

Seasonal Information

As the weather gets colder, please send your child to school with a suitable warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves.  Please make sure that your child's name is written in items of clothing as far as possible.

Homework

The most important work that you can do with your child at home is to read regularly with them and talk about the text.  Additional homework tasks will be set linked to the topic work we are completing in class.  Weekly spellings will also be sent home - these will be tested every week.
