Year 5

Welcome to Year 5. My name is Miss Birchall and I am your child's class teacher. We are extremely lucky to be supported by Mrs Fishwick and Mr Tomlinson this year.

If you would like to contact me to discuss anything concerning your child either on a personal level or with regards to their learning, please do not hesitate to contact me within school. I am available most days before and after school or alternatively please note this in your child’s planner.

This year, Year 5 will be participating in the Let’s Sing concert at Robin Park. This will be during the Summer term. More information will follow closer to the time.

What we are learning this term?

Summer Term 1 - Year 5

How can you help at home?

Reading Books / Planners

Planners are used to help communication between parents/carers and school. Children are expected to bring their planner to school daily along with their school reading book. In Year 5, planners are checked every day by either the class teacher or teaching assistant and will be stamped to show this.

Reading at home is extremely important and we would encourage children to read each night at home to an adult. Children in Year 5 are rewarded with points for reading each night in a week. Reading each night for 1 week = 1 point. These points are then exchanged for various prizes within each term.  Children who read each night of the week are also placed into a draw to win a book.

Homework

Homework will be brought home by children on a Friday and should be returned to school on a Tuesday.  Homework may include spellings, times tables, English, Maths and any other work relating to what we have been learning about in school that week. Please encourage your child to complete their homework to the best of their ability as this helps staff within school see if they have understood learning within school.
